Take a look at his snare…

So the question is, has this ever happened to anyone in the middle of a worship set?

Let’s hear your stories!!! 3-2-1 GO!

Indeed it has!! LUCKILY only at rehearsal though! A few weeks ago actually, it looked just like that, i’ll take a pic and send it to ya via twitter! Luckily i was after a new skin anyway, so could afford to replace it the day after!

    • Jon Manna says:

I’d love to see that pic! Make sure you send it.

      • Stacey Kershaw says:

hey, i didnt have time to send it during our mid-week service, as we had a pretty tight soundcheck, then before worship and after service with congregation, but tomorrow morning (UK time) i will for sure post a pic!!

  • Unfortunately this has happened to me in the middle of a worship set. Since then, I always have a back up snare tucked away just in case I need it. Also when the coating on the head starts to wear off, you know its about time for a new head. A fresh remo emperor x will do the trick! I change snare heads at least once every 2 months just to keep my snare tone in check.

  • Lon Linton says:

I think that head needed to replaced about a year ago. When the outer laminate wears away and you begin to see the smooth plastic layer underneath, you should replace the head. 😉

  • Dan Thomson says:

Never happened to me while playing, but I tend to use home-made rods for a more dampened sound in a smaller church setting. That saves the snare from undue damage or stress, but the down side is you go through more sticks!

Never in a worship set, but i fear it when i play with my band. I alway check all my heads before we play and i have a back up snare and back up heads when we play.

Ive had a kick beater fall off one time, that was interesting. fortunately the other guy who plays at our church is obsessed with double bass drum pedals so i just got to play the rest of the set with my left foot.

    • jonmanna says:

I always knew there was a reason to have a double kick in worship 🙂

My craziest mishap was that the beater went through the bass drum head while our band was on the road leading worship in a church. It happened on our first pre-service song. My only solution was to lift the beater up a little higher onto the “not cracked” part and play very gently. Was rough!!!

  • Josue says:

I hate when that happens! I was playing drums on a special praise service ( NEW YEARS) and the bass drum decided to pop on me.

The whole drum pedal just dug itself in. Fail.

  • 1SundayDrummer says:

I had the spring go on my kick pedal while practicing. My first thought was how grateful I am this didn’t happen during worship.

  • Dave says:

I once had my 18″ China pop inside-out half way through the chorus. I then spent the 12 bar break before the bridge smashing it with my hand trying to snap it back. After 15 seconds there was a loud and pingy smacking sound and a 2 inch crack around the bell appeared. Didn’t stop me from using that same cymbal for 3 more years though!

  • aaronk says:

jeez…you guys play hard for God.

  • Cyntia Moreno says:

I had that happen to me once but it was the bottom head pa
of the snare. We were playing a worship set and all of a sudden I hear that the snare has a different sound. I was like that’s not right. After we finished I check the snare at the bottom and sure enough it had ripped lol I didnt know how that happen and still don’t understand how, but since then I always check my snare before playing to see if it’s not ripped from the bottom lol xD
