As worshipdrummers, it is easy to get so caught up in the latest drum gear, newest drum accesory, and we even find ourselves envying some one else’s kit because of a SundaySeat pic!
Consider this your wakeup call!
To the worshipdrummer who is caught up in the appearance/look/swag, You’ve been created for more and your role as a worshipdrummer is so much more than the gear you lug to church! It’s much more than how hawt it looks when it’s all put together and ambient lighting is dialed in.

As a true worshipdrummer, your approach will always cost you more than your appearance. See, God doesn’t Mind us having things. He minds when things have us.
The Heart of the Issue
My pastor always says this:
The heart of the issue is the issue of the heart.
If we do our best to guard our heart and keep our motives in check, and we put in the time to prepare our heart, I believe God will take great joy in your worship. On the flip side, if we forsake the heart-work, and are consumed with image, sound, showmanship, chances are you are at the wrong gig.
When [king] David lost touch with his heart for God, he found himself feeding on the things that satisfied his ego, his pride and his flesh. But there came a time when he awoke from his “sleep” and turned his heart back to God. His words in Psalm 51:10 echo in my heart for the worshipdrummer who’s lost sight of what it is all about:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Yes, this was in response to his sin with Bathsheeba, but ultimately, David realized that the greatest satisfaction in his life was found when his heart was connected to his Creator. We were first created to worship Him. To have our hearts tuned to His. Without that distinction, we are merely drummers, and our “worship” is nothing more than noise and clanging cymbals.
Let’s Do The Heart-Work
So as you play this weekend, yes, it’s ok to post your #SundaySeat pics and to take care of your appearance, but not at the expense of your approach and the preparedness of your heart.
One more scripture to help you tune your heart to His for this weekend. Psalm 95:1-7:
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
For the Lord is the great God,
And the great King above all gods.
In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
The heights of the hills are His also.
The sea is His, for He made it;
And His hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand.
Today, if you will hear His voice:
“Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion”
Let’s continue to put the heart before the beat and have a blessed weekend!

This nicely sums up what is often on my heart as I progress and seek to improve as a worship drummer. I agree and don’t consider this post an affront.
Thank you for the reminder of the most important reason we play in the first place. “Not to us but to Your name be the glory.” Pslm 115:1
May God always be glorified in all we do.

That is so well said. We must ALWAYS keep in mind WHO we are worshipping. I may not have all the neat little gadgets that I see some of the professional drummers or even some of the awesome kits I see in the SundaySeat pics, but I use what the Lord has equipped me with….. the talent, the kit, the other musicians, and the church that lifts up the name of the Lord!!! Thank you God for giving me talents that I may use them to glorify you!!!
